My First English Experience
The first time I encountered English was in elementary school, and it felt like stepping into an entirely new world. At that age, everything seemed exciting and mysterious, especially when it came to learning something completely foreign. My teacher introduced us to the alphabet, which looked so different from Chinese characters. The letters fascinated me because they were simple yet elegant, forming the foundation of a language spoken by millions around the globe.
At first, speaking English was challenging. I remember struggling with pronunciation, as some sounds didn’t exist in my native language. For example, the"th"sound was particularly tricky for me. It took countless repetitions and practice before I could confidently say words like “this” or “that.” But despite the difficulties, there was a sense of accomplishment every time I got it right.
One of the most memorable moments was during our class skit performance. We had to act out a short play in English, and even though I stumbled over my lines several times, I managed to finish it without too much embarrassment. That experience taught me that making mistakes is part of the process—and that confidence grows stronger with each attempt.
Learning English opened up opportunities to connect with people from other cultures. Through songs, movies, and books, I discovered stories and perspectives that were vastly different from those in my own life. It wasn’t just about memorizing vocabulary; it was about embracing diversity and expanding my worldview.
Looking back, my first encounter with English marked the beginning of a lifelong journey. Even now, whenever I face challenges in mastering the language, I remind myself of how far I’ve come since that initial moment of uncertainty. And who knows? Maybe one day, I’ll be fluent enough to share my own experiences in this beautiful language!
